It is often said that cricket is a gentleman’s game and we often go around abusing this phrase without knowing about the men who make this game so great. So, we list out some of the great players who have played this game and have proved that it is a gentleman’s game indeed.
Disclaimer: The list is not a comprehensive guide to all cricketing greats but a tribute to those men who were appreciated on the field for playing in the right spirit and have continued to give back to the society in some form or the other since retiring. Cricketing records were not taken into account to prepare this list.
1. Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid was an eloquent stroke maker on the field and a humble human being off it. Playing for all those years, batting well was never his strong point but frustrating the opposition with his composure and temperament was.
2. Michael Hussey
The Australian is called Mr. Cricket for a reason. Hussey was a complete batsman who carried his attitude of total respect towards the game all the time. He is also one of the most respected players in the sub-continent.
3. VVS Laxman
The wristy right hander is one of the most potent cricketing brains in cricket. He was a part of the original quartet of Indian team and will always be remembered for that knock in Kolkata.
4. Stephen Fleming
5. Adam Gilchrist
6. Anil Kumble
Anil Kumble is one of the highest wicket-taking spinners after Warne and Murlidharan. He is also an astute administrator in BCCI. The way he handled Monkey-gate and storm that followed thereafter is truly.
